Here is an update from Maresa's facebook page:
Ron's visit to Dr Mitro( radiation) was very detailed and lengthy. We are feeling a mental tiredness from all the things we have had to process over the past three weeks. The beginning plans were to apply radiation to the most damaged areas of Ron's bones which mainly were his leg and hip.... but after our visit today Dr. Mitro feels he will need radiation to an area of his spine and ribs. The treatment plan has to be studied in details as to only apply radiation to the places needed and to avoid damaging tissue and other organs. Dr Mitro will consult with another physician and together with the help of computer programs they will design the perfect plan. Ron will have to lay perfectly still and will have the aid of a form to help hold his legs and feet still while the beams shoot through the tattoed marks on his body.
He and the oncologist have decided that since they do not know how radiation and chemo will react to each other they will wait until radiation is done before moving on to chemo treatments. This is mainly due to the newer chemo they are trying with Ron and can't be sure yet of it's effectiveness to use during radiation. They want to be safe then sorry. While we appreciate that... we are somewhat disappointed that his chemo treatments will be delayed for about three more weeks. This will put plans for his stem cell transplant to the first of the new year. Probably January or even February. We keep telling each other that God is in control and we will trust him. Up until now we have not seen the scans of Ron' bones so when Dr Mitro asked if we wanted to .. we said yes. He took us back to his office and pulled everything up on the computer. He showed us picture after picture of the damaged bones and he reaffirmed Dr.Brinkley's comment last week that it was in every single bone of Ron's body. He also showed us a before and after picture of his left leg. The rod Dr. Furr inserted last Wednesday goes from his hip all the way down to his knee. The pins and screws in his hip were clearly visible also. Amazing. Made my heart hurt that Ron has already had to go through so much in only three weeks.
He has had a few down days but overall remains very positive and hopeful.
Monday we go see Dr. Furr and hopefully get these staples and stitches out and then on Tuesday radiation treatment begins. Please keep Ron in your prayers. Every where we go we are reminded just how hard it's going to be to fight this and how hard the treatments are going to be but somehow God keeps reminding us that he is still bigger than all of this. We are hopeful.
Now onto something I need prayer about.( and I am serious) I am cold blooded and he is hot and we are not agreeing on where to set the heat/air. We are spending alot of time in the car and the past two days I have nearly froze to death. I need a snow suit and he just needs to wear boxers to all of his appointments. While this seems funny it really is an issue. I mean it looks like he would at least meet me in the middle since I am the one running him around and taking care of him. lol I do think his pain meds are making him HOT so maybe in time this will improve but until then please pray I can handle the cold a little better than what I do. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Thank you again for all your prayers. We love each and everyone of you.
